Andrew Rideout

Andrew is a Public Health Consultant in NHS Dumfries and Galloway, and the COVID lead within Public Health.  His background is as a nurse within Emergency and Unscheduled Care settings, where he has worked as an Advanced Nurse Prescriber and Independent Prescriber. His doctorate examined aspects of decision making in non-medical prescribing.

Andrew was previously Chair of the NHS Scotland Non-medical Prescribing Leads’ Group, and part of the New Drugs Committee of the Scottish Medicines Consortium.  He continues to be involved in Public Health aspects of antimicrobial stewardship and prescribing, sitting on the Paediatric Stewardship Steering group of the Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG), and has recently undertaken research with Public Health Scotland into antimicrobial resistance across Scotland.  He also continues to use his prescribing within the Out of Hours team, and within the Health Protection team.
